Chipotle restaurant shut down in Seattle for food-safety violations, adding to woes after E. coli outbreak

Chipotle's reputation has been battered in recent weeks by an outbreak of E. coli that afflicted at least 52 people in nine states. That was followed by a norovirus incident at location in Boston that sickened more than 140 college students.

A Chipotle restaurant in Seattle was shut down for repeated food-safety violations, bringing a fresh headache to a chain reeling from norovirus and E. coli outbreaks.

The public-health department for Seattle and King County closed the restaurant, which was located in the city’s South Lake Union neighborhood, according to a statement from the agency on Thursday.

Chipotle shares fell 1.7 per cent to close at US$565.56 in New York on Friday. The stock has slipped 17 per cent this year.
